AUSTRALIAN HATS.
. J ISSUE TO OTHER TROOPS. DECISION IN MALAYA. , SINGAPORE, Nov. 5. A general routine order lias been issued in Malaya to give effect to the decision to supply Australian slouch hats to other troops. The order says that “felt hats may be worn by all i,troops, less certain units of the Indian Army.” Already in Singapore and elsewhere in Malaya British and Malayan troops are: wearing the headgear which has been the Digger’s mark of identification for decades. Pew, however, achieve the carefree, jaunty manner of ,the Australians themselves. Men of the A.I.F. are still resentful, especially because it was understood that Mr Spender, when Minister for the Army, was. taking up the question. They feel that they have been deprived of some of their individuality, although they realise that the slouch ,hat as more sensible than the British Ctopee. lt is lighter, more easily camouflaged, smarter, and is more easi y "packed” in a kitbag.
