NATIONAL SAVINGS.
PUBLICITY WEEK TO BE HELD. Arrangements for a National Savings publicity week were discussed at a meeting of the Ashburton National Savings Committee last, evening, when there were present Messrs A. A. McDonald (chairman), H. L. Stone (secretary), E. R. Hopwood, A. H. Todd, C. Ward and Dr. N. E. H. Fulton.
A display' will be. made in a window in East Street for a week before its final community sing, which will be a combined one, to be held early in February, and various war pictures, relics, and National Savings posters will be displayed. A sub-committee, consisting of Messrs McDonald, Stone and Hopwood was formed to finalise arrangements for the display. It was decided that Mr McDonald give a. short address at the community sing to be held next Wednesday. A letter from the Director of National Savings. (Mr T. N. Smallwood) was read, suggesting the issue of Savings Stamps of the denomination of 6d. A card, with 40 spaces on it, would be issued free, and when the spaces were filled a £1 National Savings Bond would be issued or the money would be paid into a National Savings account. This would be a way to collect small sums which otherwise would not go into the fund. It was decided to reply approving the suggestion.
