Second-Lieutenant V. P. Boot has been promoted lieutenant in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, states a “Gazette” notice.
H. J. Kennedy, a pupil l of the Ashburton High School, passed with credit the University entrance examination. He is a son, of Mr R. Kennedy, of Cox Street.
Advice has been received that Private Ronald McKenzie, who was reported missing in June, is now a prisoner of war in Crete. In a letter, dated August 12, he says the food and treatment are good.
Mr A. G. Foreman, who has been town clerk of Temuka for the last four years, will leave on Friday to take up his appointment as County Clerk to the Akaroa County Council. Mr Foreman wa3 formerly clerk to the Mount Hutt Road Board.
The “Gazette” notifies the following appointments in the Ashburton unit of the Home Guard: —To be lieutenants (temporary): John Rollo Wilkie, William Henry Hunt, John William Matthew Parsons, and Ralond James Chapman.
Mrs M. Galbraith, M.R.E., and Miss G. Galbraith, of Stratford, are spending a. short holiday with friends in Ashburton. Mrs Galbraith, who is a former Mayoress of Ashburton, will be remembered for her excellent work in connection with the Lady Liverpool Society during the Great War.
