MANPOWER COMMITTEE MEMBER MR A. J. DAVEY’S DECISION. At tho conclusion of tho sitting oi tho Manpower Committee in Ashburton yesterday afternoon, Mr A. J. Davey, of Temuka, who has: boon a member of the committee since its formation in September, 1940, stated that because oi difficult circumstances, owing to bis two sons having joined the armed forces, he had resigned his position Avith the committee. Mr Davey expressed regret that he was forced to take this step, hut now that his two boys could not run the farm lie would have to give more active attention to it himself. He felt that if he did not withdraw he avoulcl have to appeal for a- single man avJipii married men were being called up. He did not desire that. Mackenzie (chairman), IT. Badbam (employees’ representative) and R. £4. Gillies (secretary and representative of the Crown) for their co-operation during his term. The farmers of S’oiith Canterbury and the Ashburton County had been ably represented by Mr Davey, said Mr Mackenzie, and the committee regretted that he Avas compelled to make this decision. He had been a prominent figure in public life in South Canterbury for many years. He had boon particularly fair with appeals from all sources, and had always shoAvn. the utmost willingness to give all the assistance possible.
