WAR EFFORT PRAISED.
AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND. DUFF COOPER’S IMPRESSIONS. (Rec. 11.15.) SINGAPORE, Nov. 1. Praise for the joint war effort of New Zealand and Australia was given by Mr A. Duff Cooper in a press conference. The only criticism ho encountered on his visits to the two countries was from Australians themselves, some of whom declared that they were not taking the war seriously. His own impression was that they had no lack of appreciation of what the war meant. Certainly there were many race meetings and the people were enjoying themselves, but why shouldn’t they. He had been tremendously impressed with the magnitude of Australia’s pro-
duction and the expansion and development of new industries in tho face of many difficulties. Mr Duff Cooper refused to indicate tho nature of his report to London but declared that after conferring with, tho Australian and Now Zealand Governments lie found that no changes were necessary in his original draft, which had now reached London.
