A flight lieutenant and a sergeant observer brought off a remarkable feat in flying a Beaulighter 300 miles with throe feet knocked oil the starlroaid win"- and then landing safely at their base in the Western Desert. The pilot of another Beaulighter, who comes from New Plymouth, New Zealand, shared the triumph, by leading the damaged plane home. The flight lieutenant said: “I was strafing lorries in West- Cvvonaica when F saw I was heading for soirntelegrnph wires, but I had not noticed the telegraph pole until there was a grinding crash, which look off a slab of the wing. A New Zealand pilot saw I was in difficulties and led me homo. It would have been impossible to navigate in addition to flying the plane.” The Xow Zealander said: “T did not think it possible that they would get the plane .home, but I hung round, thinking its crew might need me to go down and pick them up.”
