Mrs A. Nl. Grigg was this morning welcomed when she took her seat on the Ashburton High School Board of Governors, as representative of the Government.

Mr J. T. Travers, of Christchurch, has taken up duty at the Ashburton offico of the Public Trust, in succession to Mr R. G. Harrison, who is to enter the armed forces.

Mr R. B. Lambert, manager of the National Bank of New Zealand at Ashburton, has gone to Le Boil’s Bay for a holiday and will resume duty here on December 17. His place at the bankiis being taken by Mr E. S. Ilisli-wovt-h, accountant for the branch.

Mr J. O. Riddell, till recently in charge of the irrigation works in Ashburton County, has been appointed to the Royal New Zealand Air Force with the rank of Flight Lieutenant (Acting-Squadron-Leader) according to a notice in the Gazette.

Mr K. O. Bathurst, M.A., of Ashburton. was ordained as deacon at ail ordination service held in the Christchurch Cathedral yesterday morning by Archbishop West-Watson. He commenced duties at St. Mary’s Church. Mcrivale, last evening, when ho was welcomed by Archdeacon A. J. Petrie. Mr W. Harding, M.A., who will commence duties as curate at St. Stephen’s Church, Ashburton, this week, was also ordained as a deacon. Mr R. Williams, a former resident of Ashburton (where his father was stationmaster), at present curate at St. Mary’s Church, Addington, was ordained a priest.

Sister Ada Lee, of the staff of the Methodist Mission in. the Solomon Islands, is paying a brief visit to Ashburton. After last evening’s service at the Baring Square Church she was met by members of the Young Women’s Bible Class and other friends, when she gave an informal talk on the work of the mission. This evening she will attend the meeting of the \oung Women’s Auxiliary Circle. Before going out to the mission Miss Lee was a member of tho Ashburton Bible Class.
