BRITAIN CARRIES ON.
Despite the continued war conditions in England and the fact that technicians, actors and directors are being called up for military duty, Britisli production still earries on. That the standard of British pictures has not been lowered by the war can be seen in all new productions, at least one of the war productions in “Major Barbara” proving one of the best pictures to come from England in many years. At the present moment the studios are working very hard to keep up to the schedules which they laid down, and which are being rigorously adhered to. despite the constant black-outs and air raids. The value of these films is proved in the announcement that Major David Niven has been released from his military duties to co-star with Leslie Howard in “Spitfire,” the story of the man who designed the Spitfire plane. Other pictures at present in production include Tommy Trinder’s latest, “Portrait of a British Foreman,” from a 3. B. Pristley original, and “Young Mr Pitt,” which stars Robert Donat.
