MOTOR-CAR FALLS 100 FEET. UPSIDE DOWN IN STREAM. (P.A.) AUCKLAND, October 18. Five persons were killed when a motor-car went over a bank near Raurimu at 3 o’clock this morning. The victims were: Mr Richard Henry Price, sawmill worker, married, with three children, of Manunui. Mrs Grace Amelia Price, wife of Richard Henry Price. Mrs Una Humphrey, of Manunui. Mr Andrew Pattison, aged 19, owner of the car, and son of Andrew Pattison, storekeeper, of Manunui. Mr Cyril Dixon, insurance aghent, married, of Taumaranui. The party was returning to Manunui in a, sedan car from a dance at Kaitieke. The motor-car went over a bank 10 miles from Raurimu, dropping 100 feet and landing upside down in a stream in about five feet of water. The car by a passing carrier about 8 a.m. ARMY OFFICER KILLED. FIVE OTHER PERSONS INJURED (P.A.) PALMERSTON N., Oct. 18. One man was killed and two women and three other men were injured when an Army truck left the road on the Ashhurst-Pohangina highway at 12.30 a.m. to-day. The victims were: Killed. Captain Robert Scott Beveridge, stationed at Wellington, whose home is also at Wellington. He was a member of the temporary staff. Injured. Miss Mary Magee, a waitress, of Palmerston North. Condition serious. Mrs Alice Smith, also a waitress, of Palmerston North. Condition serious. Lieutenant Donald Wakefield, Foxton camp, seriously hurt. Sergeant Edward Coates, Show Grounds camp, injuries not serious. Mr Gilbert Hope, Palmerston North, not serious.

A body, clad in khaki trousers, found at high-water mark at Lower Portobello this morning, is believed hv the police to be the body of Gunner Albert George Mallaquin, aged 21, a

member of a coastal defence unit, who was drowned at Taiaroa Head on July 25.

Mallaquin, whose parents live in Christchurch, was walking with another soldier along a narrow path which leads around a cliff, on the seaward side of Taiaroa Head, when he slipped and fell into a deep hole under the cliff face.
