UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCES. , KING’S DIRECTV INSTRUCTIONS. V , " ! LONDON, October 18. Sergeant J. D. Hinton’s Victoria Cross was conferred in the most unusual circumstances, on direct instructions from the King. Letters from prisoners of war in Germany praising Sergeant Hinton’s courage came to London through the Red Cross, and the King, who takes the keenest personal interest in the welfare of ’wounded prisoners, ordered an immediate investigation with a view to conferment of the V.C.
