BIG EXPANSION.
BUILDING IN ASHBURTON THE FIGURES FOR THIS YEAR. Figures for building permits issued by the Ashburton Borough Council this year; show a marked increase in building activity when compared with those for last year. The permits issued .for the first eight months of this year are for buildings of a total value of £48,981. The figure for the same period in 1940 was £33,34G, or £15,635 less, the increase in the 1941 period being almost 50 per cent. It is anticipated that permits for this month will be valued at approximately £6OOO, therefore with three months of the year still to go last year’s total of £51,510 Will be exceeded.
