POWERFUL FORCE
HEAVY RAID ON HAMBURG. ATTACK LASTS SOME HOURS. SHIPYARDS AND RAILWAYS. (United Press Association-Copyright.) (Rec. 10.10.) LONDON, Sept, 16. Hamburg was the Royal Air Force’s principal objective in North-West Germany last night. Its shipyards, factories and railways were attacked for some hours by a powerful force of bombers and many large fires were started. Other German ports, including Cuxhaven and Wilhelmshaven, were also bombed. The docks at Lo Havre were heavily attacked by another force of bombers.
From these operations nine of our aircraft are missing.
Over 200 bombers were engaged in the operations. An R.A.F. fighter shot down a Messerschmitt 100 off the coast of France this morning.—British Official Wireless.
