CALL TO LOWER HUTT.
THE REV. BIBBY, OF METHVEN. APPRECIATION OF SERVICES. A call from the charge of St. Stephen’s, Lower Hust, to the Rev. L. V. Bibby, of Methven, was laid on the table at the meeting of the Ashburton Presbytery yesterday. Mr H. A. Lock (a Presbytery elder) introduced three commissioners from the Methven charge, Messrs A. L. Mangin, J. Penney and J. W. Wright, who spoke appreciately of Mr Bibby’s work at Methven. Mention was made of his organising ability and his interest in youth work. The Moderator (the Rev. E. B. Stevenson) expressed the regret of the Presbytery at Mr Bibby’s departure. Several other members spoke. The call to Mr Bibby was unanimous. It was pointed out that no other district in New Zealand had grown more rapidly, presented greater opportunities and needed more skilful direction than that around the Lower Hutt Church.
Mr Bibby has been clerk of the Ashburton Presbytery and his place will be taken by the Rev. R. W. Brown. As youth convenor he will be replaced by the Rev. E. B. Stevenson. The Rev. J. S. Mathews was appointed Moderator of the Springburn Home Mission Station.
The Rev. J. S. Murray will be the interim-moderator of the Methven charge.
