ST. JAMES THEATRE. “MAISIE WAS A LADY.” Ann Sothern’s latest ‘“Maisie” role casts her as a maid in the home of a society inebriate, Lew Ayres, whom she reforms. She also- untangles the romantic problems of Maureen O’Sullivan and Fid ward Ashley in the wittiest and fastest of the “Maisie” series, ‘fMaisie AVas a Lady,” the Metro-Goldwyn-Ma.ycr comedy showing finally to-night. On Friday at 2 and 7.45 p.m. an excellent double-star programme will be presented. “The Boys from Syracuse” is based on the stage musical comedy and brings a brigade of singing stars and laugh luminaries. Allan Jones, Martha Raye, Joe Penner, Rosemary Lane, Irene Hervey, Charles Butterworth,' Alan Mowbray, Eric Blore and Samuel S. Hinds head the cast. Played against a background of ancient Greece and modern ideas the film is a sure laugh-getter and a definite tonic. Unsung heroes of a thousand thrilling battles are the seven policemen and the sergeant who comprise the “suicide battalion” cinematically glorified by Paramount in “Emergency Squad,” the associate feature. AAulliam Henry and Louise Campbell appear in the top roles.
