Rakaia, the winners of the Ashburton Rugby Union’s senior competition, defeated a strong Army team in a match at Burnham yesterday afternoon by six points to three. The match was very evenly contested, Rakaia’s points coming from two penalty goals by I. Behrns, while Ward scored for the Army. The outstanding player was C*Cromie, the Rakaia halfhack. The Rakaia team, managed by Mr A. Doig, was entertained in the officers’ mess at the conclusion of the game. An effort is being made to arrange a return match.
