BRIEF STOPPAGE.
STRIKE PROPOSAL REJECTED. (P.A.) .AUCKLAND, August 5. A stoppage of work at the Westfield works of R. and W. Hellabv, Ltd., occurred this afternoon while the employees held a meeting ip discuss grievances concerning rates of payment for certain workers, and the recent dismissal of two union delegates in the firm’s employ. Work was resumed after a, resolution to strike had been lost on a vote. w
A conference between represonta-i tives of the men and the management was subsequently held, and was presided over by Mr C. L. Hunter (Conciliation Commissioner), who was summoned to the works in the afternoon. It was stated to-night that a settlement had been reached, and work would continue to-morrow as usual.
