GERMAN NEWSREELS.
PROPAGANDA IN UNITED STATES NEW YORK, July 12. Axis propagandists in New York are wielding one of Germany’s most powerful weapons newsreels and films showing military might. At least eight theatres in New York are screening German newsreels and ace propaganda films, such as “Victory in the West,” and “The Campaign in Poland.” These are designed to impress American audiences with the “invincible power” of the German war machine and the futility of resisting it. The German films-also seek to promote racial dissension. The UFA Corporation, which releases 50 newsreels and 120 shorts yearly, is awaiting a “favourable opportunity” to-exhibit a scurrilous feature film, “The Eternal Jew.” Another is the inflammatory “Irish Tragedy,” designed to stir up IrishAmericans against Britain. The Nazis also seek to use the large German vote as an instrument to prevent the screening of anti-German films, like “Pastor Hall,” “The Great Dictator,’ and “The Confessions of a Nazi Spy.”
After “Victory in the West” was shown, the Christian Front (pro Nazi) leader, Francis Moran, urged mothers to write to sons serving in the Army and Navy, and “impress on them the impossibility of any nation defeating the German Army.” Film renters are asking the Government to ban these German propaganda films.
