GERMANS REPORT SUCCESS SOVIET FORCE ANNIHILATED (Rec. 11.50 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 4. A German communique says that in the course of an enveloping movement in the Ukraine German and Hungarian mobile troops cut off vital enemy rail communications. The mass of Soviet forces which were surrounded east of Smolensk have now been annihilated, and the remainder are faced with disbandment.

A Finnish communique claims I hat all Soviet attacks were repulsed. The enemy lost 2000 men on the east front and many were taken prisoner. A large number of enemy tanks and vehicles were destroyed.
