GESTURE TO SAILORS.
SHEEP SOLD FOR LOCAL SOCIETY. £22 RAISED AT SALE YARDS. Farmers, butchers and auctioneers at tho Tinwald saleyards this morning made a valuable contribution toward the work of the Ashburton Guild of the British Sailors’ Society. A hogget, donated by Mr Andrew Brown, of Elgin, in aid of the funds of the Society, when offered by the National Mortgage and Agenev Company, realised the sum of £22. The sheep was sold and resold and eventually was knocked down to the New Zealand Refrigerating Company at 37s 6d. The following paid for the sheep before its final sale:— £3 Each—Messrs J. W. Butterick and A. Brown. £1 Each—Messrs H. E. Parsons, W. Reid, R. D. Cochrane, .J. Lowery, P. G. Rickard, J. Clark and N. Cartwright, Pyne, Gould, Gpinness, Ltd., E. F. Nicoll. I2s 6d Each —Mr H. D. Brown.
10s Each—J. P. McLeod, McElhinney Bros., J. Small, J. Smith. D. Livingston, E. Andrews, A. Webb, M. D. Cunneen and J.,Cocks.
