THE FREEDOM OF INVERNESS. AN INTERESTING CEREMONY. (Rec. 9.35 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 3. The ceremony of the presentation of the freedom of the city of Inverness to the Rt. Hon Peter Fraser included the right of placing a gold ring on the . third finger of the left hand, symbolising that he was wedded to the town and its affairs. The Provost performed the ceremony in the city’s largest theatre, which was crowded. Mr Fraser, replying, surveyed New Zealand’s progress in the war effort. He eulogised the fine qualities of the Maoris and the part they are playing.Mr Fraser opened the new Y.M.C.A. buildings for the forces. Mr Fraser has gone to his birthplace, Fearn (Rossshire) where he is receiving the freedom of the town.
