News has been received of the death in England of tho Very Rev. Charles Carrington, third Dean of Christchurch and at one time Principal of College House. He was 82 years of age.

Advice has boon received that Private H. F. Ross, who left New Zealand with the Divisional Cavalry Reinforcements, has joined the 6th Brigade Band. He was formerly a member of the Ashburton Silver Band.

Mr and Mrs A. T. Heseltine, of Ashburton. received official advice on Saturday night that their son, Private R. T. Heseltine, is a prisoner of war amt is in hospital in Greece. Mr and Mrs Heseltine were advised some time ago that another son is also a prisoner ol war in Greece.

Mesdamos A. N. Grigg and F. Curtis, Mid-Canterbury representatives, will attend the annual mooting of the Dominion Council of the New Zealand Rod Cross Society at Wellington on Wednesday. Mesdamos Curtis (Centre Commandant), J. Bennett (assistant; Centre Commandant) and Grigg will also attend a V.A.D. meeting oh tho following day.

Appreciation of the characters amt service to the church of the late Messrs Benjamin Baker and C. 0. Davidson was expressed at the morning service at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church yesterday by the Rev. J. S. Murray. Sympathy with their relatives was voiced. Mr Baker was one of the oldest members of the church, and Mr Davidson was a member of the Board of Managers.
