STAYING POWER WINS
Staying power under stress is the glory of the Royal Air Force as of the whole country writes Major Oliver Stewart in the “London Observer.’’ In the air battle of Britain last autumn when the skies blazed with gun fire and the earth was.churned with fading bombs, it was staying power that gave Britain the victory. It is true that the battle demonstrated the technical merit of our aircraft, the skill and courage of our aircraft crews, the excellence of the detection and control systems and the sturdy resolution of the ground staffs. But in the end it was the country’s staying power that won the day.
