HUGE STOCKS HELD.
APPAREL AND WOOL IMPORTS. FIGURES FROM UNITED STATES. (Rec. 10.5 a.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 1. The New York “Journal of Commerce” says that apparel and wool imports continue to be heavy, with Alls* tralian predominating. During the week ended July 5, fine wools received at the ports of Boston, New York, and Philadelphia, totalled 3,849,000 clean pounds, of which 3,398,000 were Australian wools. The United States has purchased 250,000,000 greasy pounds of Australia’s last season’s clip. Stocks of apparel and wool held in the United States on June 29 were 207,754,000 lbs, not including 66,000,000 lbs of greasy Australian wool held by the Defence Supplies Commission.
