HEAVY SOVIET ATTACKS MOUNTING GLOOM IN GERMANY United Press Association —Copyright ■ (Rec. 11.10 a.m.) LONDON, August 1. Military authorities are unanimous that the crucial test in the Russian-German conflict will come in the next few days. The British United Press correspondent at Berlin reports that German officials admit that the Russians are counter - attacking heavily on all fronts from Lake Ladoga to the Black Sea. The Berlin radio admitted that the Finns are meeting with strong Russian counter-attacks on the Karelian front. While there is mounting gloom among the German populace, the Russian leaders are supremely confident. Marshal Budenny, Soviet commander in the Ukraine, appealing for intensified guerilla warfare, declared: “The hour of victory is at hand. A German communique states that fighting on the eastern front is progressing favourably. An Istanbul message says that 1 General Liszt is believed to have been withdrawn from the Russian front. He was seen in Athens and Sofia last week.
