ST. JAMES THEATRE. \ “CONGO MAISIE.” “When the Daltons Rode” and “Congo Maisie” will he shown finally to-night. The former starring Randolph Scott and Kay Francis at the head of a distinguished cast traces the careers of thd lawless Daltons from their ranching days through a series of daring exploits alive yith uproaring thrills and action. In the associate film Maisie the explosive blonde returns this time in Africa. With Ann Sothern again in the title role, “Congo Maisie”' makes the showgirl more lovable, more amusing, more tantalising than ever and she finds herself in predicaments aplenty. Any studio that puts Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell together in a dancing picture can’t possibly go wrong in the field of entertainment. Well, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, not only didn’t go wrong on “Broadway Melody of 1940/’ but it has given the public the fcest “Broadway Melody” picture ever. Opening at the matinee to-morrow, it has plenty of dancing for dance lovers, tuneful songs, comedy and a moro clever story than is usually found in a musical. And on top of that, of course, there is eye-filling beauty, both human and background. George Murphy, Frank Morgan, Florence Rice, Lynn Carver and lan Hunter top a stunning cast. Now what more can be said? These aren’t all of the delights the picture. has, but they are enough to show that anyone who misses “Broadway Melody of 1940” misses the entertainment high “point of the year.
