CONVOY ATTACKED
SMALL ENEMY VESSEL SUNK. TARGETS ON LAND ALSO BOMBED INDUSTRIAL AREAS AND DOCKS. (United Press Association —Copyright.) (Rec. 12.20 p.m.) LONDON, July 31. An Air Ministry communique states: “In daylight yesterday a considerable force of Blenheims of the Bomber Command searched German territorial waters for shipping. A number of small vessels in convoy were sighted and attacked in Heligoland Bight. A ship of 1200 tons was sunk and direct bits on others of 1500 and 500 tons wero followed by explosions which threw debris high in the air. Seven of our aircraft are < missing from these daylight operations. “During last night aircraft of tho Bomber Command, flying through severe thunderstorms and extensive rain clouds, went to West Germany and attacked industrial targets in the Aachen and Cologne areas. The docks at Boulogne were also bombed. Three of our planes are missing from these night' operations.”—British Official Wireless.
An Air Ministry communique states that aircraft of the Fighter Command, in the course of several offensive operations .over the Channel and the coast of France to-day, destroyed two enemy fighters. Two of our planes are missing, but one pilot, is safe.—British Official Wireless.
