THE WEATHER IN ASHBURTON. Overcast and chilly condition again, prevailed in Ashburton to-day. . The maximum and minimum temperatures yesterday were 46.0 and 37.0 degrees compared with 46.3 and 34.8 on Wednesday. The barometer read 29.81 inches compared with 29.75 inches yesterday. OBSERVATIONS AT METHV&N. The following are the meteorological observations for July, recorded by Mr James Oarr, “Rudstono," Methven: — Rain fell on nine days, the maximum being 92 points on the 10th. The total for the month was 2.24 inches (July, 1940, 4.49 inches). The average for July for the past 32 years is 3.32 inches. The driest Julys during that period were in 1914. and 1928, when only 78 points was recorded. The wettest was in 1912, when 11.15 inches fell. The total for this year to date is 23.43 inches, compared with 24.77 inches for the same period of 1940. The highest value of the barometer was 1133.9 milibnrs on the 18th (last July 1025.1) and the lowest was 1003.1 on the 26th (1004.4).
