Mr D. H. Moore has been appointed a director of the Ashburton Rotary Club.

Mr L. Aitken, the sitting member, is the only nomination for the position of parents’ representative on the Ashburton Technical High School Board. Nominations closed at noon to-day.

Mr A. C. Wilson will leave this evening for Wellington, where he will represent the Ashburton Silver Band at the annual meeting of the Ntaw Zealand Brass Bands’ Association to-morrow.

'Miss S. M. Oruickshank, who has been on the staff of the Ashburton Borough School for the last 4-J years, has received notice of her transfer to the Timaru West School.

Greetings on his birthday which was to day, were sent to Mr J. Bland by the Ashburton County Council. Mr Bland, who is a member of the Council, has been in hospital for some weeks suffering from a broken leg.

The choir of the Baring Square Methodist Church last evening carried a motion of sympathy with Mrs J. P. McLeod and Miss I. Chapman in the death of their mother, Mrs S. A. Chapman, this week.

A small presentation has been made, to Miss P. Dudderidge (tutor-sister at the Ashburton Public Hospital), who has left to take up a position at Auckland. by the Ashburton branch of the Nov Zealand Registered Nurses’ Association.

A motion of sympathy with Mrs A. Fooks in the death of her son. PilotOfficer Harry Fooks while on service overseas ,was carried at the meeting of the A.shhurton County Council to-day. Pilot Officer Fooks was a son of the late Mr A. A. Fooks, for many years County Engineer.

At a meeting of the Baring Square Methodist Church Trustees this week Mr K. G. Fowke was appointed treasurer vice the late Mr J. W. Baker. Mr Fowke has taken a prominent part in all branches of the activities of the church. He has been through the Sunday Sehol, is a member of the choir and is leader of the senior men’s Bible Class. A motion, of sympathy was carried with the relatives of the late Mr Baker.
