The Timaru Technical School won the football match and two basketball matches played against the Ashburton 'Technical High School at Timaru yesterday. The football match was won by Timaru by five points to nil. The Timaru A basketball team beat Ashburton A 12-6 and the Timaru B team won 17-4. The Timaru football team was superior in its back play and had a slightly heavier team., Ashburton strongly attacked at the outset and Telfer the Ashburton full-back was able too stem several dangerous attacks. His play was one of the bright spots in a hard and not spectacular match. The score at half-time was 3-0 in favour of Timaru. Ashburton were vigorously attacking in the second half and Timaru were lucky not to have had their line crossed. Ashburton put up a spirited defence in the last stages of the match. The senior basketball match was fast and open and provided very bright play. A feature of the play was the intercepting tactics of the Timaru side. Doris Mcllroy (Ashburton) was outstanding at centre. Timaru Were particularly good at goal-throwing. In the junior match, play was more even than the scores indicate. Timaru had good combination and Ashburton were not able to break it down.
