OVERCAST AND CHILLY.

AFTER VERY LIGHT FROST. Mainly overcast and very chilly weather was experienced in Ashburton today. There was a light wind and at times there was moisture in the atmosphere. The maximum and minimum temperatures yesterday were 46.3 and 34.8 degrees, compared with 46.7 and 24 degrees for the previous day. The grass minimum temperature showed a ground frost of 2.3 degrees for the night. The barometer stood at 29-75 inches this morning. CONDITIONS DURING JULY. Although the rainfall this month has been light, only 1.34 inches up till 9 a.m. to-day, it is more than twice that of last July. The weather during the month has been typically wintry with a fair sprinkling of sharp frosts and some cold and chilly days. Twenty-one ground frosts and 15 screen frosts were recorded at the Domain weather station. The heaviest was recorded on the night of July 1, when the ground reading was 15.3 degrees and the screen registration was 10.8. Nineteen frosts were registered in July last year when another method of measuring was in use. The highest temperature this month was 65 degrees on the 4th, and the lowest maximum was 41.2 degrees on the Bth. Minimum temperatures varied between 21 degrees, on the 2nd, and 48 on the sth.
