WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

MEETING AT WAKANUI. The monthly meeting of the Wakanui Women’s Institute was held in the hall when the president (Mrs Dick) presided. A motion of sympathy with Mrs -VI. A. Constable in her bereavement was carried in silence. A report of the recent birthday party was given and Mrs Dick thanked all who helped to make it a success. Invitations to the Hampstead and Alienton Institutes were received. Members who could, were asked to attend the school for officers to be Held in Ashburton on Friday, August 8. The roll call, “My biggest mistake in cooking” proved very amusing. It was announced that an extra competition for the next meeting will be for garments suitable for the refugees. Members were also asked to knit liveinch peggy squares for the September meeting. The monthly competitions resulted: Small bloom : Miss Butterick 1, Mrs Dick 2. Mrs Kingsbury and Mrs Moore (equal) 3. Mittens: Mrs Kingsbury 1, Mrs Dick 2. Queen cakes: Mi’S Kingsbury I, Mrs Moore 2,, Airs Dick 3. Pickled onions: Airs 'Dick 1, Aliss Butterick 2. The hostesses were Mrs Don Wilson and Aliss Protlieroe.
