ASHBURTON MOTOR-CYCLE CLUB. ON A RESTRICTED SCALE, The Ashburton Motor-Cycle Club has decided, to continue activities, although on a restricted scale. The decision was made at the annual meeting on Saturday evening. Supporting tliis view, a foundation member, Mr \Y. J. Dailey, said: “We as motor-cyclists have a duty to perform, not only to ourselves but to our King and Country.” “Our riders know all the road and river crossings in the County, and we are the only body of highly-trained motor-cyclists in the district to co-operate with the Emergency Precautions Scheme. Time and again we have stated our willingness to assist the Defence Department in any capacity.” The president (Mr R. M. Chambers) in his report congratulated the club on its success during the war period. Sporting activities had been curtailed through riding members going overseas in the forces, scarcity of petrol and the impressment of motor-cycles. A motorcycle unit had been formed to co-oper-ate with the Emergency Precautions Scheme and Home Guard, but as mosr of the prominent riders had lost their machines through impressment, great difficulty confronted the unit.
