“FULL OZS WANTED.”

COMMENT ON AN APPEAL. NEW PLYMOUTH, July 19. “As 3 see the case,” *Mr Coleman said ; “you are endeavouring to put us in a dilemma, and make us come to a state yhere, if we take these two single men off your farm of 157 acres and you have to put dry stock on it, or leave it, you can say we had affected the country’s cheese production to the extent of 80 cows. We all have to make sacrifices, hut you want the full ounces to the pound.” These remarks were made to Robert Anderson sen. by the chairman of the No. 3 Armed Forces Appeal Board (Mr A. Coleman, S.M.) at Stratford, when tlie board heard an appeal concerning an Anderson family at Toko. He would have to dispose of his herd of 80 cows, said Anderson sen., appealing on the grounds of undue hardship, and public interest, for the services of his son, Robert Anderson jun. The appeal was heard at the last sitting of the board at Stratford, and was adjourned till the present, sitting so that Anderson sen. could make further endeavours to obtain labour. He had not been able to get any further, Anderson said. Besides the herd, Anderson junior, and another brother helped on a lorry run. Anderson senior also drove a lorry. If his first son were taken, the work would be too great for the other son and himself, Anderson senior said.

The appeal was dismissed, . conditional upon Robert Anderson junior not being called up before August 31.

Mr Coleman commented that there was no need at all for the farm to go out of production.
