HEAVY LOSSES INFLICTED.
RUSSIAN REPORT OF FIGHTING. SUCCESSFUL TANK OFFENSIVE. (United Press Association —Copyright) i(Ree. 9.35 a.m.) LONDON, July 7. A Moscow communique issued at mitl-day, dealing with the night fighting, states: “Our troops in the Ostrov sector ipflieted considerable losses on lenemy tanks. There was fierce fighting throughout the night in the Polotsk area, while the enemy was trying to cross the western Dvina. Wo repulsed all attacks with great losses to the enemy. The German mechanised forces in the Lepel sector took up the defensive as the result of our tank offensive. We frustrated an attempt by the enemy’s mechanised forces to advance in the Novograd-Volhnsk sector and inflicted heavy losses.”
