BREMEN RAIDED FIVE TIMES
(United Press Association —Copyright.l LONDON, July G.
There lias been little enemy air activity over and round Britain during the last week. A number of German aeroplanes wore destroyed, but no damage was suffered by the Royal Air Force.
The outstanding feature of the week’s air activity was the extension of the Royal Air Force’s daylight raids on Germany, the dock’s at Bremen and Kiel, and railway yards south of Oldenburg being successfully bombed. The Krupps armament works were attacked and sot ablaze, and at one lime more than six great fires wore raging at once. One squadron was over the target for more than half an hour.
Bremen was raided no fewer than five times, while the industrial districts of the Ruhr again suffered heavy damage. Other towns attacked included Emdon, Duisburg, Cologne, Hamburg, Willielnishaven and Dusseldorf. Tin* naval base at Rvlfi and the seaplane base at Borkum wore also attacked.
In the onslaught on shipping a 3000ton vessel and an SOO Off on vessel were set on fire, and two ships of 3000 tons ancl GOOD tons are believed to have been sunk.
..The docks at Cherbourg and Den Helder were both raided twice, and the naval base at ‘Brest was again attacked. Botnbs straddled the docks where throe German warships are berthed.
These widespread operations were carried out during the single week ended at dawn on Friday. In the Middle East, though the number of enemy planes destroyed—39— was smaller than it had been recently, British losses were more than proportionately light. Only six British planes failed to return. Tripoli and Benghazi wore raided no fewer than six times. Several enemy vessels at Tripoli, including one of 20,000 tons, were severely damaged.
In Syria, besides supporting the advance of the ground troops, the i.Royal Air Force attacked aerodromes, including those at Aleppo. Ra.vak and Masrilla. They also attacked docks and shipping at Beirut. Over Malta, eight Italian planes were shot down without loss.—British Official Wireless.
