LONDON, May 20. The citation accompanying the award of a bar to the Distinguished Flying Cross to Acting-Flight Lieutenant Lloyd Watt Coleman, of Havelock North, said:— “Acting-Flight Lieutenant Coleman captained a bomber in a night attack on the Benina aerodrome this month. He displayed great skill and tenacity in locating his target, which was eventually observed by the light of a. parachute flare. He carried out a most determined attack with bombs and ma-chine-guns from heights varying from 3000 feet to 9000 feet, and destroyed at least two Junkers 52’s on the ground and damaged others. “After returning from this operation, Acting-Flight Lieutenant Coleman was driving in a lorry when an aeroplane coming in to land crashed and burst into flames. Acting-Flight Lieutenant Coleman immediately ran to another aeroplane nearby, and although bombs and petrol tanks were exploding ho started the engine and taxied the aeroplane to safety. He has continuously displayed outstanding courage and devotion to duty.”
Acting-Flight- Lieutenant Coleman gained the ID.F.C. last November.
