Mrs Lusk, of Tinwald, has been advised by cablegram that her son, Lance-Corporal Gordon Lusk, is safe and well. Similar advice has been received by Mrs W. Wilson, Riverside, from her son, Private N, S. Wilson.

Advice has been received from the Education Services of the Royal New Zealand Air Force that Mr N. D. Harrison, of Rakaia, has passed the preliminary examination for the Air Force, held on May 5 and 0.

A Press Association telegram sent from Auckland last night stated that Mr R. G. Menzies (Prime Minister of Australia) will arrive at Auckland today by Pan American Clipper from the United States after a four months’ round the world tour in the interests of Australia’s war effort. He will he met by the Acting-Prime Minister (the Hon. W. Nash) and will ho the guest of the Government at dinner to-night. A civic reception will he accorded him to-morrow.

The directors and members of the staff of Mid-Canterbury Transport, Ltd., assembled last evening to make a presentation to Mr H. N. Lewis, who recently resigned his position as secretary to the company to take up practice on his own as accountant in Ashburton. The managing-director (Mr J. B. Cullen) handed to Mr Lewis an office chair and clock and expressed thanks for his sterling services during the formation period of the company. He ventured the opinion that in view of Mr Lewis’s qualifications his future career could not be otherwise than successful.
