WAR VETERANS.

NO INCREASE IN MONETARY BENEFITS. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 2L At a meeting of the executive of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, a report was presented regarding a discussion on the rehabilitation of returned men between representatives of the Association and the Acting Prime Minister, the Minister of Defence and the Assistant Minister of National Service. The Association was assured that in every way possible returned men would receive consideration. Anything the Government could do would be done. It was also intimated that information cards outlining the privileges available in New Zealand to members of the forces would be posted to the addresses ot the next-of-kin of all returned members of the fighting services. The Government’s reply to representations made some time ago for increases in pensions to war veterans and economic pensioners was considered. The reply stated that the Government was specially anxious to afford all assistance possible to those dependent on war pensions and was ready to meet any reasonable request that might be submitted. In view of tlie enormous financial demands of the war it was very much regretted that increased monetary benefits might have to stand over in the meantime. The executive, considered the reply most unsatisfactory and decided to refer the matter to the Dominion Council.
