THREE MONTHS’ HARD.
A PACIFIST SENTENCED. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Harold Ray Bray, aged 22, a farm labourer, chai’ged with obstructing the police in the eexcution of their duty, was sentenced to three months’ hard labour by Air J. L. Stout, S.AI.
Superintendent Lopdell stated that Bray belonged to the Christian Pacifist Society. “It is significant that this man, and I. think, the majority of the others who have been charged, are single men of military age, some of whom have been caught in the ballot and have failed in appeals against overseas service. They have come from as far, away ns Nelson and the Waikato. Accused came from the Waikato to take llis turn, he said in speaking here. It is noticeable that some of them are liot practised public speakers, and it is suggested that they have come here because of failure to get out of military service and the probability of finding a safe place by being charged and sentenced.”
