REV. J. S. MURRAY

TRIBUTE BY CONGREGATION. RESOLUTION At KELBURN. The Presbytery of Wellington at a special meeting last Friday evening sustained the call extended by St, Andrew’s Church, Ashburton, to the Rev. J. S. Muvrny, M.A., of the Ivelburn Presbyterian Church. Commissioners from the latter congregation appeared before the Presbytery and stated the deep regret of aH members at Mr Murray’s projected departure. ,

Mr Murray's ability, high character and devotion to duty were evidenced by the following resolution which had been adopted by the Kolburn congregation: “The Kolburn congregation, having been informed of the possibility of a call being extended to its, minister, the Rev. J. S. Murray, M.A., by the charge of Ashburton, desires to record its deep regret that the pastoral tie may shortly be dissolved. For the past six and a half years the congregation has enjoyed the services of a minister of outstanding ability and of the highest character, who by his grace and charm has won for himself the abiding love and esteem of every member and adherent.

“Every part of the congregation’s life and activity has benefited by his keen interest and labours, and to his administrative ability, taefc, and wise judgment must go the credit for the harmony and vitality which prevail. He has at all times conducted the services of worship with dignity and deep reverence. His sermons have ever shown evidence of careful study and prayerful preparation and have always been of a consistently high standard, while on many occasions they have risen to heights of brilliance. “His conduct in the pulpit and his everyday life have reflected the depth, sincerity and purity of his own. spiritual life; and his strength of conviction and simple, child-like faith have brought many of his flock to a closer relationship witli their Lord arid Saviour. It can truly be said of him that he is a man of God, a faithful disciple of his Lord and an earnest preacher of the Gospel. His pastoral ministrations have been a real solace and comfort to the sick, the aged, and the afflicted and have meant much to them in their time of trial and sorrow.

“In all. these phases of his work Mrs Murray has stood beside him and loyally borne her share of the w-ork and responsibility and the congregation would express its warm appreciation of the devoted service she has rendered. The congregation feels that it . cannot hinder Mr Murray in any way, should he feel compelled to answer the. call and if he decides to accept it then it will part with him and his family with very deep regret. It will always remember with a sense of deep gratitude their faithful and devoted ministry and prays that God’s blessing may rest on their work in the future.”
