The totnlisator handled £33,710, compared with £30,392 on the second day last year, making a total for the meeting of £95,909, an increase of £16,183 10s. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 19. The Otaki-Maori winter meeting was concluded to-day in fine but cold weather. The track was in . good order and the totalisator handled £12,004, making n total for the meeting of £30,131 10s. At the last two-day wintci meeting in 1 938 the total was £20,033 10s.

THE MATCHES ON SATURDAY. SENIOR AND FOURTH GRADE. A decision to play only tho senior and fourth grade matches on Saturday owing to the trotting meeting being held on the same day was made at tne Weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Ashburton Rugby Union last evening. The president (Mr N\ Robilliard) presided. Because of the school holidays only quo fourth grade match was set down for last Saturday, namely MetliVen v. Rakaia, to be played at Methven, bur because of transport difficulties Rakaia asked that the match be advanced a week so that the fourth grade team could accompany the Rakaia seniors which play at Methven on Saturday. This request was agreed to consequently there will again bo the only one fourth grade match on Saturday as tn« school holidays have not yet been completed. An application for the transfer of I). W. Lemon from 'Methven to High School Old Boys was left over pending endorsement by the Methven Club. Mr A. Thomson was appointed game’s controller for Saturday at the Ashburton Domain.

The South Canterbury Rugby Union supplied particulars of a seven-a-side tournament on tho King's Birthday, Monday, June 2. The New Zealand Rugby Union advised. in reply to a request from Ashburton. that the Rugby film “Control” was at present being shown in the North Island, but when the North Island programme was complete a further loan could he made to Ashburton,

Colder (Physical Welfare Officer for the District) for its formation.
