BOMBS' DEVASTATING EFFECTS.

CHEAT DAMAGE IN GERMANY.

MANY TARGETS ATTACKED. (United Press Association—Copyright) (Rec.' 11.20 a.m.) LONDON, April 1. The devastating results of the explosions of a. new typo of high-explos-ive used by the Royal Air Force in raids on Germany last night are referred to in an Air Ministry communique, which States: “Tho ship-building yards at Bremen and tho industrial centre of Emden were the main objectives of the Bomber Command. At Emden a new type of high-explosive was used.- Massesof debris flying through tho air were outlined against tho glow of fires and the results appeared to be devastating. “Elsewhere in north-west Germany individual attacks were made on Bremerhaven and Oldenburg. The petroleum harbour at Rotterdam was attacked by a smaller force, which also, bombed other targets in the neighbourhood, including two aerdromes. “From tlieso operations one of ours

is missing.” Reviewing what is described as a busy, successful day by Blenheims of tho Bomber pommaud yesterday, the Air Ministry communique says: “Warships, supply ships, gun emplacements and German troops were bombed and machine-gunned. Besides the t\vo tankers set afire off Le Havre and left sinking, a destroyer off the Frisian Islands was later twice hit. She slewed round and came to a standstill, listing heavily. Our aircraft then flow low over the islands of Terschelling and Andamoland and bombed and machine-gunned emplacements and German troops on parade. Heavy casualties were inflicted, tho troops on parade being dispersed. “Still later another sortie scored a direct hi fc on an enemy supply ship, one of a convoy of eight vessels protected by warships and fighters. “From these operations two of o'urs are missing.” When the Blenheims attacked German troops on parade- at the Terschclling and Andamcland Islands they roared over only 50 feet above tho ground and tho crews saw the troops rush for cover. During an attack on a long, grey hut around which German troops were standing, on another island, the aircraft came down to 10 feet. A direct hit produced volumes of black smoke. Tho German News Agency says that the Royal Air Force dropped incendiary and high-explosive bombs on several places in north-west Germany, causing fires. Explosive bombs dropped on a town in western Germany resulted in casualties.
