STRENGTH INCREASED.
BRITISH FORCE IN MALAYA LONDON, March 31. The British Commander-in-Chief in the Far East (Air Chief Marshal Sir Robert Birooke-Popham), has announced the arrival of strong reinforcements, including mechanised units from Groat Britain. Fresh British and Indian troops and Royal Air Force units have now reached Singapore. The Royal Air Force units aire the first to' reach Malaya, from the United Kingdom since the outbreak of war. Sir Robert Brooke-Popham declared that Britain’s greatly increased strength in the Far East was a threat to no one. On the contrary, it Was a great stabilising force and an influence for peace. He said that the fact that troops could he spared from other theatres of war for service in Malaya, was a cause for very considerable satisfaction.
