SUBSTITUTE CROPS FOR WHEAT. FEEDING PIGS FOR BRITAIN. (Rec. 1.30) MONTREAL, Mar. 6. • It is reported from Winnipeg that the Grain Research Committee, after a three-day conference, recommended Western Canadian farmers to increase their of corn v . flax and barley as a substitude for wheat. An increase of 35,000,000 bushels in the production of barley will he required to feed the increased production of hogs needed for Britain for bacon. The increases in cotn, flax'and barley will take out 1,250,000 acres intended for wheat.
