MR MENZIES REPLIES.
APPEASEMENT NOT ADVOCATED. AUSTRALIA AND THE PACIFIC (United Press Association—Copyright) ftONDON, Mar. 5. “I am in entire agreement with the Australian War Council. lam not advocating a policy of appeasement in the Pacific or anything like it. It has been made perfectly clear that we will defend all our interests to the last.” In these words, Mr R. G. Menzies (Prime Minister of Australia) replied to Mr J. A. Beasley’s criticism of his recent speech. “I cannot see the faintest connection between a frank realisation of facts and the policy of appeasement, which' Australia never entertained,” said Mi’ Men zips. I have always understood that a policy of appeasement was one of retreat. Australia will never practice that.” Complaining against the tyranny of words, Mr Menzies said: “The time is coming when, if you look over your garden wall and say ‘Good-day’ to a. neighbour you will be accused of appeasing him.”
