POOL FOR INFANTS

SWIMMING AT BOROUGH SCHOOL OBJECTIVE OF THE COMMITTEE. A sub-committee comprising the chairman (Mr W. H. Sarney), the headmaster (Mr M. J. Leith), Dr. J. Connor and Mr W. K. Waters was set up at a meeting of the Borough School Committee last evening to investigate the matter of providing a sAvimming pool for infants. At a previous meeting it had been decided that the objectives of the flower slioaa* should be the .provision of a pool for infants and the establishment of a water supply for the baths. It.was agreed last evening that the infants’ swimming bath should be the niain objective. The Canterbury Education Board advised that the .immediate clearing of sumps and down-pipes at the school had been ordered. Miss L. J. Robinson tendered her resignation from the staff of the school in consequence of her appointment to a position at the Ashburton East School. It was agreed to affiliate Avitli the Ashburton County Pfiinary School Sports Association and to make a donation of £1 Is. It Avas decided to Avrite to the Education requesting, that asphalting be done to give access to the model school before the Avinter. A profit'of about £9O AVas made from the annual flower slioav, according, to financial statements. The' chairman said t’he result avus very satisfactory, being the best on record.
