EMPIRE SUPPLIES.

EAST AND SOUTH OF SUEZ.

PERMANENT COUNCIL FORMED.

LONDON, December 30. As a result of the recent conference at Delhi, an Eastern Supply Group Council will be set up to make British territory east and south of Suez selfsupporting in war time. “The Tynes” says: “The permanent council will be composed of members nominated by India, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, with a chairman from the United Kingdom. Meantime, delegates ai’e completing a survey of the resources available. The business of the council will be to ensure that the most effective use is made of these resources," to avoid overlapping, and to see that deficiencies in any country of the group are made good by others. Great economy in the use of shipping and an increased source of supply should result. “Figures put before the conference show that India and the three Dominions concerned can supply most of the munitions and military equipment needed by the forces east of Suez, and at the same time can contribute an ever-increasing volume to the requirements of the forces operating from Britain.

“Other participating territories can augment this expansion by supplying raw materials. With so much already achieved, what is now needed is intelligent direction of the common effort to servo the common purpose.”— British Official Wireless.
