SKILLED WORKERS.
MATTER OF MILITARY SERVICE. POSTPONEMENT SUGGESTED. (Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, December 2. Immediate action to assist in meeting the serious position in the building industry throughout the Dominion was urged by the Master Builders’ Association at a largely attended meeting today. The meeting discussed the extreme shortage of labour, particularly carpenters and general labourers, and unanimously resolved to approach the Prime Minister with a view to delaying the further calling up of skilled ti'adesmen for a period of three months, the position to be reviewed at the end of February. It Avas also resolved to urge that skilled tradesmen iioav in camp be released for three months, and that the Minister for Labour (the Hon. P. C. Webb) be asked to arrange a conference next Aveek Avith the trade unions concerned, Avith a vieAV to an extension of the working Aveek, the additional hours to be paid for on the basis of a flat rate.
