CHRISTCHURCH v. ASHBURTON.
NARROW WIN FOR VISITORS. i The Christchurch Defence Rifle Club defeated Ashburton in a match at Ashburton on Saturday afternoon by five points. The match was originally set down as an Oakes Challenge Shield contest, but when rain set in, the 600yds range had to be abandoned and this made it necessary to finish the match at 500 yards.
The standard of shooting was high. Several possibles were scored. H. Harries, of Christchurch, had the distinction of scoring possibles at both the 300 and 500 yards ranges. Possibles were also scored by H. Cromie (Ashburton), G. Crimp and W. Trite (Christchurch). The Christchurch team, which won by five points, owed its success to the fine average of 33 per man put on at 500 yards. It is hoped to fire a return match later in the season. Scores were as follow:
