WOMEN’S DIVISION.
THE ASHBURTON MEETING. The combined November and December meeting of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Catholic Club rooms, Mrs A. S. Hayman presided over a representative gathering and welcomed the visitors, including Mrs Murphy, one of the County housekeepers. One new member was enrolled. The meeting opened with a prayer for peace and the Creed. It was resolved that a letter of cheer be sent to Mrs S. Corbett. Mrs EL M. Begg gave* the housekeeping report and Mrs Hayman reported on the recent meeting of the Mid-Canterbury Provincial Executive. An invitation was received from the Mitcham-Rokeby branch to attend its garden party. The cultural period was of an interesting nature. Mrs W. W. Avery gave an account of incidents in her work as prison visitor while engaged in deaconess work in Dunedin. A decorated cake was cut in honour of the birthday of Mrs E. M. Begg, who gave the afternoon tea to mark the occasion. Mesdames Bennett, Cass, and Ellis acted as hostesses. The competitions, in charge of Mrs Soctt and Mrs Cass, resulted Scones, Mrs J. R- Lattimore 1, Mrs Cass 2, Mrs Begg 3; spike, Mrs Amos 1, Mrs Lattimore 2, Mrs 'Meaclem 3: bloom, Mrs Butterick 1, Mrs Meaclem 2, Mrs E. M. Begg 3; truss, Mrs Butterick 1, Mrs Amos 2, Mrs Lattimore 3; vase- of flowers, Mrs Meaclem 1, Mrs Lattimore 2, Mrs E. M. Begg 3. «► * ~ MITCHAM-ROKEBY BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the MitchamRokeby branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held at Mrs Ziegler’s, reside nee. Mrs Penney presided over a good attendance., Arrangements were made for the annual birthday garden party, which it was decided to hold on December 5 at Mrs Copland’s residence. .Mesdames Ffcnney and Copland were appointed to judge the school gardens. It was also decided to donate a prize for writing to the school as usual. Competitions resulted as follows: — Bloom, Miss Penney 1, Miss A. Doig and Mrs W. Penney (equal) 2, Mrs Ziegler and Mrs J. Doig (equal) 4; ladies’ spray, Miss L. Penney and Mrs C. Doig (equal) 1, Airs J. Doig and Mrs Ziegler (equal) 3, Mrs V. Wilkinson ' and Mrs W. Penney (equal) 4; heaviest ' gooseberries, Mrs J. Doig and Mrs \. ’ Wilkinson (equal) 1, Mrs W. Penney and Miss Penney (equal) 3, Mrs R. Penney 5.
